Mr. Proudman.
Hey there folks. I’ve been to self-esteem school. I’ve climbed mountains, been bungy-jumping, skydiving. I’ve broken through the fear barrier. My intelligence can solve all my problems and provide all the answers I need. I’ve had business success. I can live life ‘my way’ to quote Frank Sinatra. I love myself, because you can’t love others until you love yourself. I can do anything I want and no-one can stop me. I have good looks I value my life so I’m out to get everything I can out of it. You only live once! You can be my friend if you accept my terms and live up to my expectations. Quality is what I’m after and I don’t suffer fools gladly.
Mr. Humble.
Hi. I’m enjoying the life and the blessings God gave me. Is it possible that I could share some blessings with you? We share this planet and it gives me pleasure to know you. Who are you? You are like me, wonderfully put together, and very interesting. How different you are from me, and how you bless my world. I’m glad you are in it. Looking into your world opens my eyes up to many possibilities. There are things I could never understand without knowing you. Can we work together to build true community? My skills and yours will complement each other and multiply the blessings.
Here you see two extremes and most of us fall somewhere in between. If Proudman is 1 and Mr Humble is 10, where do you find yourself?
You can see the isolation and consequent loneliness of Mr.Proudman compared to the intimacy available to Mr. Humble. He isolates himself within a small group of which he approves, and is manipulative and self orientated. Sometimes hurt has made him defensive and he has to prove himself to himself, or protect himself from being hurt. Fear is a major issue quite often. Forgiveness can be a problem.
Mr Humble values all creatures personally and loves to invest in the lives of others. He has a broad base of learning, the gift of thankfulness which alerts him to many things, and has the most remarkable gift of being able to sideline personal agenda to learn something new. If someone were to make a mistake they could be forgiven and not cut off from his world because he values them and wants them blessed anyway. .
Proverbs 11 says “When pride comes, then comes shame, but with the humble is wisdom.”
The closer we can get to a 10, the richer our lives will be.

i'm pentecostal now but value the influence of several other churches that I have belonged to. What matters is that we are faithful to the unchanging word of God. Fashion and times may change but the basics do not, any more than the laws of physics change according to times and fashion. The spiritual and physical laws (often running parallel!) were formulated before the earth conformed to them, and before time was initiated. The Bible is not only descriptive, but prescriptive, telling us where we fit into the picture.
I find it exhilarating to study as it shows mankind in a constant tension between (d)evil and Go(o)d, yet retaining the choices and the consequences. The problem is that (d) evil has his soul and Go(o)d has the extrication. Man functions beautifully when he'sre-establishe withhis Creator.
