Freedom: What is it?
September 27th 2006 16:42
In a famous Australian court case an innocent mother went to gaol for the murder of her baby daughter, declaring her innocence and that the child was taken by a dingo! Many years later, after three years imprisonment, marriage breakdown, and much personal wear and tear, it was established that her story was right. A lie put her in prison but could not take her innocence. She held consistently to her story, and was totally free of guilt.
Once the truth was revealed she was able to live free of the lie, especially in America where it did not follow her everywhere!
How many people hear or sense that they are not valued by their families. Believing this, they live subsatisfactory lives. Once a lie is believed it has control of everything you do. If you believe you cannot do a thing, then, for sure, you cannot do it. But this belief may not reflect your true talent. To get to the Olympic Games you certainly have to believe that you can! To get that new job you have to believe you can. What you believe underpins everything that you do. If you believe a lie, eg that you aren’t loveable, then you’ll project that belief and people will not respond to you.
Freedom is the removal of the lie from your subconscious so that you can operate in truth, free of the lie.
This is the real meaning of Freedom – “The Truth will set you free” says the Bible. Lies limit us, create an incarceration, a prison, a dysfunctional life. Truth enables us to live fully, freely, and fully functional.
Jesus is able to replace the lie you have believed with Truth, and set people free of the lies that have contained them. This is the theophostic ministry, and very powerful.
Freedom does not mean doing whatever you like if you don’t think it hurts anyone else. Freedom means operating from a base of truth.
Martin Luther King wanted to free his people of the lie that they were lesser because of skin colour. John F Kennedy wanted people free of the lie that we’re all better off looking after number one when he said “Think not what your country can do for you but think of what you can do for your country.” There was a most positive response to this call as people recognised its deep truth.
Truth is the most powerful weapon in the armoury! Let’s have it!

I'm not certain what you are saying here. Maybe you mean that freedom is whatever you think it is. You certainly can do with language whatever you want. I'm talking about what I believe is the origin of the concept of freedom, which was compared with imprisonment..

However, if the guilt is not real, but just there because someone said it was your fault and you believed it (This happens over and over in abusive marriages or unstable parent to child communications for example) then its the truth that sets you free, once you know that you know that you know it. However this guilt is usually well built in and causing depression or violence or some other behaviour that is off balance, and takes quite some finding. That is where prayer and Jesus can elicit it and establish the truth that sets you free.
