Truth Wisdom Freedom - The Truth will set you free!

Integrity

Integrity

Prov 11:3
The integrity of the upright will guide them.

What a beautiful word is “integrity”.

I looked it up in the dictionary. It’s is related to the word “integer” which means whole, complete, Somehow it’s tied up with honesty and truth. Now I’m getting excited!

When you talk about a man with integrity, you usually mean an honest man, trustworthy, true to his word. So a man who lacks these qualities is something less than a whole person. He may have health, mental acuity, physical fitness, social charisma, all sorts of things, but if he lacks honesty, then he is less than whole. On the other hand, if he has honesty, then whatever else he doesn’t have, (physical fitness, health, wealth,) he is said to have integrity, or to be whole!

So our English language places honesty, or attachment to truth, above every other consideration when measuring a man. In fact the whole measure of a man is the measure of his honesty or truth. So the measure of a man is much more spiritual than emotional, physical, social, financial or anything. This is interesting, because, when we die, all those things will drop off anyway, and what is left is integrity, which will face God one day. His question will be, “Are we whole or are we bit? Have we loved truth, or have we lied?”

There will be no liars in Heaven” shouts God throughout scriptures.

“The Truth will set you free!” He states.

So freedom has to do with truth and integrity. It’s not just doing what you want “if it doesn’t hurt someone as far as I know but half the time I don’t know whether it does or doesn’t.”

Freedom is really about living with total truth and integrity, not bent by any falsehood or half-truth. Now this puts Freedom of speech in a brand new light. The first requirement for ‘freedom of speech’ is truth. Now that will put an awful lot of people on the spot. For example the pack of lies put together in the book and film “The Da Vinci Code” has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech. There is no freedom in the perpetration of lies. There is only freedom in truth. There is only wholeness, or integrity, in truth. I’m sure our heroes who died for freedom would rather have died for truth than for “whatever people can convincingly get away with.”

Let’s put truth and integrity back into the vocabulary of society. Let’s take a new look at freedom and measure it in terms of truth rather in terms of “what I can get away with.”
