The Family House
When you build a house (family) several essentials are there.
First lay the foundation. This is done in families as children grow and learn family values. The house will only be as strong as its family values. It is essential that parents, particularly fathers, pass these on. (Children take more notice of fathers. Sorry to say it girls, but it is true more often than not). The teachings of the Bible are the excellent foundation. They are like rock. It’s better to build on rock than on sand which doesn’t hold together in a storm.
Second, lay the bricks. I’m suggesting that the bricks are the men and the mortar is the women. Both are essential but their roles are different. Neither is any good without the other. Bricks without mortar will fall apart and mortar without bricks is weak.
Girls, the mortar holds things together! Women are very talented for this. How does that make you feel?
Fellas, the bricks largely give the house its character. Your children want to imitate you. How does that make you feel?
I think the roof might be the vision or purpose which the family accepts. When a whole family puts themselves behind a project, eg some-one’s role in the football team, or the development of their music, you get a wonderful result. Steve Irwin’s family might be a magnificent example of this togetherness on vision. God has planted purpose in every life. Find and accomplish is the target!
