Who are You?

December 17th 2006 12:04
Do you know what you believe? Who you are is largely what you believe, and what you’ll stand up for. So I’m asking you, what do you believe? What is worth all your major efforts. They say “As a man thinketh, so is he”. That’s a quotation from proverbs in the Bible. When all said and done, your clothes, your “cool”, your possessions, your status or wealth, your position, your relationship with those around you are all a product of the way you think, and the way you think is a product of what you believe.

So what do you believe? What you believe will define your life, relationships, everything. What you believe is a result of your own choice. Circumstances happen, both good and bad, but it’s the way you handle them that counts, and the way you handle them is the product of what you think, which is the product of what you believe.

So, what do you believe? It’s most important to know. What beliefs are dug deep into your psyche? What voices in your head do you listen to? You actually have all the choices. You also have the responsibility and the results!

Therefore it’s important to know what you believe because it may need changing if you are not getting the right results!

You can only get the right results by having the right behaviours. You can only have the right behaviours if your thinking and your belief system is right. Your thinking can only be right if it’s based in truth. The truth cannot be whatever you imagine it to be any more than the law of gravity can be whatever you think it is. Therefore you MUST find out what the Truth is! “The Truth will set you free” says the scripture. That means free of the influence of lies, half-truths (sometimes the most dangerous of all since they appear true) deviations and concoctions.

The most important thing in life then is to discover Truth. That means putting aside personal agenda (very difficult to do). There is such a thing as the Spriit of Truth.. There are a lot of spirits you don’t want in your life, but this one is most important! Ask Him to lead you into all Truth so you can be made free! A man who loves truth above all things is a man indeed, a man who cannot be bought, a man who knows what he believes and doesn’t easily get persuaded from it. He is a man who is able to listen and assess by the spirit-level (as in building) of reality. This works in every sphere of life, whether you are planning strategies at work or discussing the adventures of your children in the world they live in. Truth is always the yardstick.

Discovering Truth? That’s another story!

Very interesting question there Helen!
Who I am constantly changes because I try to learn as much as I can whenever I can. One of my High School teachers taught me to look at the world from loads of different perspectives and I have carried that lesson close to my heart since. With a strong faith as a foundation I think it is possible to explore loads of avenues without being led astray - just have to make sure that you keep your beliefs firmly in place because it can be easy to be tempted.

Truth? Hmmm...

I think that we humans, with our abstracting brains, have distanced ourselves from the truth that we are nature too. Not apart from it. So, nearly everything we do can be reduced to that reality.

Now, there is some truth!

Helen,

...I enjoyed this probe, and your outlining that behaviours do count... good one .. because... the scripture says ... "IF you do this, and IF you do that... THEN the truth will set you free..." I have always thought of those pre-requisites as the 'fine print,' that many people overlook...*lol*

To me the truth is beyond the mind and emotions...and not always something that can be clothed in reason...but more of something living somewhere in the NOW of universal intelligence, therefore it is hard to quantify... and perhaps we shouldn't try...(?)

We all journey to our own personal truth which eventually leads us to the great river of universal truths ... the collective consciousness...hopefully along the way we surrunder ego in able to find it...(?)

I really enjoyed this post... keep searching...

Lilla...

[SIZE=2]Hallo dear friends, Ash, Deorre, and Lilla!

Sorry that this answer was so long in coming. My access to internet disappeared when I attached a printer/fax machine and couldn't get the connection right. A great friend has helped, but I had to wait over Christmas.

Ash, you are right. It is so easy to misfire. When you know God the Father-Creator, and HIs Son Jesus who is the Truth in person it gets easier. They have given us the Bible with most of the answers in it, and the Holy Spirit of Truth who leads us into the rest. Faith in His Word, which is actually the yardstick aby which everything is measured, indeed gets us there.

Other perspectives are perspectives indeed, but the Creator has ultimate truth. Once you iknow Him there are limitless truths to explore, and that is really exciting!

Deorre, I think you have something there. We are trained to analyse, which sets us at a distance. Once we find Truth we need to accept it as hungrily as a musicaly gifted child accepts his music lessons. We need to get right into it and live in it and let it live in us. This process is simple, butneglected!

Lilla,What is universal inteligence? If it is not God our creator, then it's meaningless because it can only mean the collective IQ of the created beings who can't actually create anything.in comparison with God. All men can do is explore the creation. So their collective intelligence doesn't amount to much.

Personal truth is a fabrication with no apparent connection with reality. It has no measuring stick at all and so it is guaranteed to be wrong.

What is collective consciousness if not merely a collective term for animal instinct, which is only the first tep up the ladder. Intelligence may use collective instinct to its own advantage, but is still incapable of designing creation - only exploring it.

Wisdom and Truth have to come from the Creator - right outside of man's mental limits. He can learn them if he wishes, but he has to learn from somewhere outside of himself. God, the Creator, has the monoply on wisdom and truth.. Anything else is untestable imagination.

Journeying to our own personal truth is a journey inside ourselves and takes nothing external into account. It relies mostly on emotion which is not agood arbiterof truth. Taking nothing, or very little, external into consideration, it must automatically come short of the mark.

I think you have it right with your comment "Truth is beyond the mind and reason," but this conflicts with your statement about personal truth. leading to a river of universal truth. There is no guarantee at all that "personal truth" points in the right direction to the Creator's reality in fact it is totally lilkely to be way short of the mark.

Your comment about surrendering ego is most valuable. Jesus teaches humility (something like "absence of ego"). Humility opens up the mind to learning potential, where ego (= pride) hides truth.

What the scripture says is "you shall know the truth, and the truth shal set you free". This was addressed to Jesus' disciples. So the condition is to be a disciple of Jesus, who is personified truth. There simply can't be any truth which excludes the Creator of all things!
